Beef Stromboli

Serves 6


8 oz ground beef
1 yellow onion, chopped
1/2 red bell pepper, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 cups canned crushed tomatoes
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 tube frozen bread dough, 8 oz.


  1. Preheat oven to 400° F.
  2. Spray a large nonstick skillet with vegetable cooking spray. Heat skillet over medium heat. Add beef and cook, for 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Add onion and bell pepper and cook for an additional 5 minutes, stirring. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute. Stir in tomatoes, oregano, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Simmer beef mixture over medium-high heat until slightly thickened, about 15 minutes. Spoon beef mixture into a medium casserole.
  4. On a lightly floured surface, using a lightly floured rolling pin, roll dough out into a rectangle large enough to cover casserole. Cut rectangle into 6 squares. Arrange squares over filing.
  5. Bake Stromboli until top is golden brown, about 15 minutes.
