Spiced Chocolate Bars

Serves 36


3/4 cup flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter
1 1/2 cups light brown sugar
3 oz unsweetened chocolate, melted
3 eggs
1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts


  1. Preheat oven to 375° F. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, cinnamon, cloves, allspice and salt.
  3. In a separate mixing bowl, beat together the butter with the sugar on low speed until just mixed. Beat in melted chocolate, then the eggs, beating until smooth. Beat in the flour mix. Fold in the chopped nuts. Scrape the batter onto the prepared pan.
  4. Bake for 30 minutes, until firm. Cool in the pan on a rack. Cut into 36 squares and enjoy!
